What are tips to safely rent and use a dumpster?
When renting a dumpster from American On-Site, safety is paramount. Here are some precautions you should take:
- Choose a Safe Location For The Dumpster: Ensure the dumpster is placed on a hard, level surface with at least 24 feet of overhead clearance for our larger containers. Avoid placing the dumpster near underground sprinklers, water lines, sewer lines, or any utility lines a truck must cross to service the dumpster. This helps prevent property damage.
- Avoid Overfilling The Dumpster: Overfilling the dumpster can lead to instability and potential accidents. Ensure waste is evenly distributed and does not exceed the top edge of the dumpster.
- Keep Children and Pets Away: Dumpsters are not play areas. Keep children and pets away from the dumpster to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Mind the Pinch Points: Be aware of pinch points where hands, arms, or feet could get caught, such as where the lid meets the dumpster sides or around hinges and external metal arms or rollers.
- Use Proper Lifting Techniques: When disposing of heavy items, use your legs, not your back, to lift. If an item is too heavy, ask for help.
- Don’t Exceed Weight Limit: Each dumpster has a weight limit. Exceeding this limit could result in additional fees and potentially damage your property.
Remember, American On-Site is not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or damage caused by a container or to a container while the container is at the customer’s location. If you have any questions or concerns about dumpster safety, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Your safety is our priority.
